View the interview with Annette Summersett, singer and songwriter responsible for the extremely popular Brett Favre
retirement song, The Day Football Died, below.
Your song, The Day Football Died has become a popular song for Packer fans (over 300,000 visitors on 6/7/08), mourning the
retirement of Brett Favre. What made you want to write the Favre Retirement Song? Annette Summersett - I express my feelings through lyrics and song so for me it was natural to create something out of such a
historical event that shook myself, and everyone who is a Brett fan, so emotionally.
How long have you been writing songs? Annette Summersett - I've been writing songs since I was just a kid. I composed on the piano when I was really young and when
I hit college I finally learned the guitar and started writing more seriously.
How long did it take you to write the song? Annette Summersett - It took about 4 days for me to mold it to the way I wanted it to be. I started from the moment in the
bar when I was discussing it and writing it on a bar napkin with my friend Jamie Mortellaro (who filmed the video), and ran it's course
to the end result after days of thinking about the song when I woke up, when I was in the shower, when I was at work, when I was
driving ect. I get excited about creating things so I applied myself wholeheartedly to my self-induced project. :)
Where did you film the video? Annette Summersett - I live in Los Angeles currently (relocated here from the Upper Penninsula of Michigan) so we filmed
it at Griffith Park. There is a lot of green trees there and no snow, which was great!
Your video has spread like wildfire with Packer fans on sites like Youtube and MySpace. Did you expect the reaction the song has received? Annette Summersett - I knew people would get a kick out of it because, in the end, it was a good piece of work (Jamie is a real film
guy, no joke, so he did a great job), but I had no idea it would blow up the way it did.
Have you been approached by anyone for additional Packers songs or videos? Annette Summersett - Not really. Nothing serious anyway. I was capturing one moment in time. I'm not really a tribute song singer normally.
Has the NFL or the Packers organization reached out to you? Annette Summersett - Yes. Certain circles are talking, but I don't have any solid outcome so I'm not going to jinx it.
How would you feel if your song and/or video was shown or heard at Lambeau or on Fox before a game? Annette Summersett - It would be a dream come true. Unbelievable to experience I'm sure.
Will you be performing the song live anywhere? Annette Summersett - I've actually performed it live already 2 months back at 'Favre Fest' in Chicago at 'Will's Northwoods
Inn.' There is video footage of that on Youtube too. I've also played it at my various shows out here in L.A. It always throws the audience for a loop.
Where can someone find more information about you and where you may be performing next? Annette Summersett - My myspace page is the place to see all that. My shows will be listed when they are
coming up.
Can fans purchase albums or songs anywhere? Annette Summersett - I have my regular music up on my myspace page. The songs on the page are mostly demos I'm trying out and if
you want my actual released album entitled 'Solid Earth and Gold', you can get it digitally on Itunes or hard copy on CDbaby..... and of
course, the Favre song is on my myspace page and it's the only one that I made downloadable for free.
